Step 1: A manifesto
· Stereotype
Being a fan of music is isn’t a zero or a one. We all do it in our own ways, liking whatever we like for own reasons. We might openly share some things while considering others guilty secrets. We might listen on earbuds on a commute, bask in front of an awesome stereo system with something on vinyl…go to gigs or live vicariously through others. What we have in common is almost indefinable - music does something to us.
So starting out, we thought being clear on what we as creators of this project value and what we don’t. Our goal is an inclusive community that values the human experience of music.
-
F**k the Likes: while novel for a while, ‘liking’ a post feels wrong and becomes a popularity contest. We’re not doing that. If you like something - recommend with your take and boost to others for visibility.
-
Slow and thoughtful over instant gratification: take your time and express an opinion, there’s no bandwagons to jump on.
-
Be authentic: this is by people for people so we should take every opportunity to use the platform to bring people, ideas and opinions together.
-
It’s not about us: a large part of what we want to do is amplify what’s already out there. Artists need support, venues need people to show up to gigs - we can be there for them and each other - sharing our passions.
-
As creators, we’re not aiming to create a billion dollar brand but making this our job to keep growing, listening to the community and making it sustainable.
-
We’re not wedded to any particular streaming platform: music is to be enjoyed whatever your preference.
-
Community is at the core of all of this: we want to stay close to that, listen, bring people in to shape whatever this becomes. We’ll get a community charter to guide all of this.
-
Your content is yours: it helps us if it’s all on our platform to be shared and commented on by everyone but you created it, so it belongs to you.
-
This for everyone no matter your background or how you present: discrimination of any kind is not acceptable.
-
It should go without saying, but if it’s illegal or unacceptable in real life, the same applies on our platform.
We’re two people working on something we’re passionate about, outside of our day jobs. Maybe it’ll be a thing, maybe we’ll have fun trying - subscribe for updates and if and when we have some early version to play around with, you’ll be the first to know!
